  Nigerian ace comedian, Bright Okpocha popularly known as Basketmouth, has  explained why he did not vote in Saturday’s elections. The comedian gave his reasons via his Instagram account on Monday. He stated that he had shows outside of Nigeria planned for a year in advance to secure a good venue and that changing venues due to the election date would cause him logistical problems. “I have always spoken up about the wrongs in this country. It’s quite unfortunate that I missed elections this year. However, my international shows are planned one year before, so as to secure the date and venue. “To have changed my date on such short notice would have been a logistical hazard not to myself but to the whole crew. Elections have not always been in February. But my show always was, as a valentine special. “That being said, I am proud of every Nigerian Youth for taking a stand. Thank you to my true fans that understood and still came out for me. Thank you Frankfrut for another sold out show.

Nigerian Court Of Appeal Judge Slumps, Dies While Preparing For Sitting

  A Court of Appeal Judge, in Akure, Ondo State, Justice Lokulo-Sodipe has slumped and died. Lokulo-Sodipe, 67, was said to have slumped in his office while preparing to attend a court session on Monday.  It was also gathered that all attempts to revive the judge proved abortive as he died on his way to the hospital. The immediate past Chairman of the Akure branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, (NBA) Mr Rotimi Olorunfemi, confirmed the incident on a WhatsApp platform. He simply said, “Just confirmed it (the judge’s death) is true. He collapsed in the office at Court of Appeal, Akure this (Monday) morning. He was rushed to the hospital but confirmed DOA (Death on Arrival)” Speaking on the sudden death of the Appeal court judge, the Chairman NBA Akure, Banjo Ayenakin, described the death of Lokulo-Sodipe, as a rude shock. Labour Party Vows To Challenge Election Results In Court, Alleges Irregularities In Lagos, Kaduna, Others

  The Labour Party (LP) has vowed to challenge the results of the Saturday's presidential and National Assembly elections, faulting the process of collating the result by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saying it will challenge the outcome in court. The party in a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna State, alleged that most of its members were deliberately disenfranchised through varied means across the country, but were prevalent in its strongholds. In the statement signed by the National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim said while the party made inroads with high votes in most parts of Northern Nigeria, LP members were deliberately prevented from voting, chased away violently from polling units, or had ballot papers and boxes destroyed and burnt in others, Vanguard quoted him to have said.   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 73-year-old woman, Comfort Muoneke, for been in possession of 20 Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) Two of her accomplice, Afekhana Esther and Segun Osaimokhai were also arrested. The EFCC in a statement on its Facebook handle on Sunday said, “Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, have arrested three persons for being in possession of several Permanent Voter's Cards. “One of the suspects, Afekhana Esther, was arrested at Ward 1, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ikpoba Okha, Benin City with 20 PVCs belonging to different people. “She claimed that the cards were handed over to her by the duo of Comfort Muoneke, a 73-year-old woman and Segun Osaimokhai. “The suspects have made useful statements and will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation is completed.”

  Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), won a polling unit in Adamawa State after the announcement of the result. Adamawa is known to be the stronghold of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. At Adamawa: PU35, Karewa, Yola north LGA, Obi polled 120 votes, while Atiku scored 82 votes and the All Progressives Party (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, got 26 votes, the Presidential candidate of NNPP polled 2 votes. Meanwhile, at Atiku’s polling unit in Ajiya Ward, Old GRA, Jimeta, where the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Mohammed Bello, also voted, he scored impressive votes to record a historic first win of his unit since 2007 when he started seeking to be president. At his Ajiya Ward 012 unit, the PDP flagbearer got 282 votes against 57 votes for the APC, 6 for LP, and 1 for NNPP.

  Streaming company Netflix announced its plan to slash subscription prices in more than 30 countries in a bid to attract more subscribers. It was gathered on Friday that prices have been cut in parts of Asia, Europe, Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East. The move was announced to address the rising cost of living that has affected households coupled with emerging rival services competing with Netflix. Members have never had more choices when it comes to entertainment,” a company spokesperson told the BBC. Countries in which subscription charges have been lowered include Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Croatia, Venezuela, Kenya and Iran.   The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken into custody one Hassan Ahmad in possession of N2 million cash allegedly meant for a politician in Gombe. The ICPC Spokesperson, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, who said this in a statement in Abuja, added that the cash was in both old and new notes.   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that the presidential election on Saturday (today) will be concluded and a winner declared as quickly as possible. It took the electoral umpire over two days to declare the winner of the 2019 presidential election. But INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said the Commission will speed up the process this year. “I just want to say that we will ensure that it (result declaration) will be done speedily. Holder Jr. who was found guilty has been sentenced to at least 60 years in prison.   The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, said this while expressing concern about vote buying at the maiden briefing on Thursday. He, however, said he is hopeful that the vices will be dealt with. Noting that all materials have been distributed to states, he said the sensitive materials are currently being delivered to local government areas. He said that nonsensitive materials were deployed two months ago. The INEC Chairman reiterated that 240 polling units do not have voters, and also said that staff to be deployed for the elections have been trained.   A popular pro-Biafra separatist agitator, Simon Ekpa, has been released by Police in Finland, hours after he was arrested and grilled on Thursday, according to HS. Earlier on Thursday, Ekpa was escorted out of his apartment in Lahti by Finnish policemen. He was later released after the police allegedly arrested him for a suspected crime. The Finnish Central Criminal Police has now confirmed Ekpa’s release on Thursday. The police claimed Ekpa’s arrest was in connection with the ongoing preliminary investigation. “The person being questioned today is suspected of a crime.   The Nigeria Police Force has ordered movement restriction for the first part of the 2023 General Elections – the Presidential and National Assembly Elections. The polls are scheduled to be held on Saturday February 25 across all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. The Force headquarters, Wednesday night, announced that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba ordered no movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation, from 12am to 6pm on election day. A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said those on essential services such as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), officials, observers, ambulances, firefighters, etc. are exempted. Unknown Gunmen Burn Woman Alive, Raze Commissioner’s Home In Imo State

  Unknown gunmen on Tuesday burnt an elderly woman to death at Amagu Ihube community in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State. The woman was burnt when the gunmen razed down several homes, including that of Emeka Okoronkwo, the Imo State commissioner for youths and sports. Also burnt is the country home of Nnamdi Obiaraeri, the former Dean of the Law Faculty of the Imo State University, Owerri, who served as Commissioner for information, youth and sports and land and urban planning, respectively, during the administrations of former governors, Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha. Also torched was the country home of a retired Director of the Department of State Services, Emeka Ngwu. The elderly woman was reportedly caught in Ngwu’s house by the raging inferno. Confirming the attack to the newsmen on Tuesday, The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, stated that the police had launched an investigation into the incident, adding that no arrest had yet been made.

  Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Warri convicted three internet fraudsters, Onukwugha Favour, Lawrence David and Omoghan Destiny Igbinosa and sentenced them to prison. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), prosecuted them each on the charge of impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. The convict, Igbinosa, arraigned for impersonating Nollywood actor Ninalowo Bolanle in Benin City, Edo State sometime between 2021 and 2022, had fraudulently sent documents to Newon Quanon through the internet with intent to gain advantage for himself. The offence, contrary to Section 22 (2) (b) (i) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, is punishable under Section 22(2) (b) (IV) of the same Act. The second convict, Favour, charged with the same offence, was found guilty of impersonating Mariah_1812, a United States citizen and sending documents to unsuspecting victims.
