It was gathered that in a video clip, which went viral last week, captured a student named AbdulKabir AbdulKadir from Kasim Primary School in Agaie expressing anger over the state of the nation. The student, in his motion during a debate, voiced opposition to compulsory voting in the country, expressing concern that the citizens’ votes have lost significance, citing corrupt leaders. Reacting, the Niger State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in a statement signed by its spokesman, Jibrin Usman-Kodo frowned at the development.   The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Sunday dismissed calls by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum, for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu over the current economic hardship in the country.   Nigerian singer, Stanley Omah Didia popularly known as Omah Lay, has announced a sabbatical from music. The ‘ Soso’ crooner announced to his fans not to expect new music from him anytime soon. “I am not giving you new music anytime soon,” he wrote via his Instagram story recently. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Friday, said his administration will sustain purposeful governance and administrative efficiency because they are helping the people of the state to engage in ventures that bring honour. Fubara spoke when he hosted the Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who participated in the just concluded 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.   The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with the Abia State government, has seized hard drugs that weighed 1.217 kg in a sting operation jointly carried out in Umuahia. One Adaobi Nweke, identified as a drug lord and a lawyer was arrested along with four hard drug peddlers in Umuahia during the operation. Addressing reporters about the operation, the Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security and the NDLEA for the successful operation. He said the Abia State government is committed to flushing out all forms of criminality and described drugs as the bedrock of all criminal activities.   The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) will hold a two-day nationwide protest over the hardship being experienced by Nigerians as well as the deteriorating security situation in the country. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday after an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union. He said the protest will begin a week after the expiration of the 14 day ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government which will expire on February 23.   The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), has said that social media content creators must now register their handles and accounts. This include Instagram and TikTok users with large followers, according to CAC, must now register their businesses with the commission. The commission said that this is in accordance with the Company and Allied Matters Act 2020. This is coming amid alleged plans by the Federal Inland Revenue Services, FIRS, to onboard media content and influencers into its tax system. The Registrar General, CAC, Hussaini Magaji, made this disclosure on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director, Opay, Dauda Gotring and his team in Abuja.   A 13-year-old boy has been remanded in a Borstal Correctional Centre in Lagos for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 6-year-old girl. The boy, a student who lives with his parents at 96, Oshodi Road, Oshodi, Lagos was arraigned on charges of defilement at Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Raji Akeem told the court that the offence was committed in January 2024 at the defendant‘s residence. Akeem said that the boy, lured his neighbour’s six-year-old girl, to his room when their parents were not around and defiled her. The offence according to the prosecutor contravened the provisions of section 210 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi refused to take the minor’s plea. She ordered him to be remanded in the Borstal Correctional center until April 17 for legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Speaking during a media briefing Saturday (3am Nigerian time on Sunday), a National Transportation Safety Board member, Michael Graham, said officials were on the scene to gather perishable evidence.
