  Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic has debunked reports that she and her husband, Fidelis Anosike welcomed a set of twins. Reports had emerged on Wednesday that the couple welcomed the twins in the United Kingdom. Some Nigerians had congratulated her on social media. But  reacting, the actress described the repost as ‘fake news’. She posted a picture with the caption “Fake news” on her Twitter page. Recall that Rita Dominic tied the knot traditionally with her husband, Fidelis Anosike on the 19th of April, 2022 at Aboh Mbaise, Imo state. The star-studded ceremony had the likes of Chidi Mokeme, Kate Henshaw, Joke Silva, Ini Edo and many others.

IMO STATE: “Security Operatives Raided, Burnt Shops At Eke-Ututu Market To Stop Banditry” - Governor Uzodinma

  Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma has given a reason for Saturday’s security raid at Eke-Ututu Market in Orsu Local Government Area. Security operatives had raided and burnt some shops in the market after materials for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were allegedly uncovered in the place. Speaking on the development at the Government House in Owerri, on Wednesday, Uzodinma told newsmen that bandits operating in the area use the IEDs to fight security operatives. According to him, a Major in the Nigerian Army on duty around Orsu Awo-Idemili died last month from an explosion from the device. According to Kalu, Obi does not have the kind of structure that can give him victory in the election. He, therefore, urged people not to waste their votes on Obi. Incidentally, Kalu and Obi are of Igbo extraction but Kalu stressed that the election is not regional but national. US Court Postpones Judgment On Nigerian Serial Fraudster, Hushpuppi Till November 3

  The United States District Court for the Central District of California has again postponed the sentencing of embattled internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi, to November 3, 2022, after he scored an unexpected relief in the ongoing trial. The Nigerian Instagram celebrity and alleged internet fraudster was billed to be sentenced on Monday afternoon, September 19. Judge Otis D. Wright in Los Angeles said Mr Abbas will now be sentenced on the new date based on the court’s own motion. Prosecutors had opposed delaying the sentencing any further than September 19, arguing that Mr Abbas and his lawyers had prior knowledge of all related matters in the case and were only out to delay and frustrate the judicial process. But Mr Abbas’ lawyers, led by criminal defence attorney Louis Shapiro, said the prosecutors were trying to railroad the judge into sentencing their client even as some issues were still outstanding. “No Nigerian Movie Eligible For 2023 Oscars” - Committee

  The Nigerian Official Selection Committee for the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences has announced that it will not be submitting a movie for the 2023 Oscars. The Chairperson of NOSC, Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi, who communicated the development to the AMPAS, expressed regret that the committee could not find a film suitable for the award. The statement reads: “Although the committee received three epic films following its call for submissions in August, it turned out that none of them will advance to the next stage owing to the voting patterns of members.” In a session that lasted two hours on September 3, 2023, the NOSC recorded a voting chart of ‘8:5:1:1’ from its 15 members- with ‘no film is eligible’ taking the lead.   The Anambra State Government has placed a ban on the wearing of mini-length uniforms in schools across the state. The state’s education commissioner, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh made this known during an interactive meeting with education secretaries of public and mission schools held in Awka. The commissioner did not hide her displeasure on what she saw as “the growing trend of putting on mini-length uniforms (skirts/gowns) in schools". One of the oldest identified Nigerians, identified as Mark N'wogo, died on December 9, 1992, in Surrey, United Kingdom, but the assets he left behind have gone unclaimed for nearly 30 years, which means that his properties would be surrendered to the British government by December 2022. He was believed to have served in the Navy, which gave his birth year as 1926, and to have an unnamed family in Sapele, but neither this individual nor any others had stepped forward to claim the deceased's possessions (whatever value they may have now).   There is tension and fear of the unknown in Mkpuma Ekwa-Oku Community in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as suspected gunmen killed a security operative of Ebubeagu. This has created an atmosphere of fear of the unknown as residents of the community are not certain of what might happen next.   The Independent Investigative Panel on Human Right Violations by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, and other Units of the Nigeria Police Force, sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, awarded N289 million as compensation to 74 victims of police brutality. Led by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Suleiman Galadima, the Panel awarded compensation, after it considered a total of 297 petitions that were brought before it by either victims or their family members. It was gathered  that the secretary of the panel, Mr. Hillary Ogbonna, disclosed that allegations in the petitions that were determined, bordered on extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, cruel/degrading and inhumane treatment by police officers, prolonged detention, abuse of power, as well as non-payment of judgement debts.
