An Anglican priest has married a couple despite the bride’s father insisting that she swear an oath to a traditional deity at a shrine, vowing to cut all ties with her mother.

The wedding was reportedly held in Onitsha, Anambra State on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Narrating the incident in a video seen online, the priest said bride’s father, Ekene Aniukwu, who hails from Nteje, in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, met him several times before the wedding, claiming that he had taken her mother, his ex-wife, to a deity over unresolved marital issues between them.

The man warned that if the wedding went ahead as planned, the marriage would fail.

In an attempt to maintain peace, the priest advised the couple to comply with the father’s demands so the wedding could proceed.

However, when they got to the shrine with the items needed for the,  the father suddenly changed his stance, insisting that the bride must swear an oath to permanently cut off her mother.

The bride refused and ran away from the shrine.

The priest went ahead and joined the couple in holy matrimony after praying for them.
