Ruben Amorim Sacked As Manchester United Coach
Ruben Amorim has been sacked as Manchester United’s coach after a run of one win in five Premier League matches.
The Portuguese manager was relieved of his duty on Monday morning after a disappointing 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday.
After the 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday, Amorim called out the club’s board to allow him to do his job.
According to reports, Amorim’s dismissal comes after growing tensions between him and the Old Trafford hierarchy, including director of football Jason Wilcox.
Manchester United confirmed Amorim’s sacking with a statement on their website on Monday.
The statement read: “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United.
“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.
Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.”
Amorim’s 38.71% win rate is the worst of any permanent Manchester United manager in the Premier League era.
Under the Portuguese manager, Manchester United won 25 matches, drew 15, and lost 23, scoring 122 goals, and conceded 114 goals.
The Red Devils will be back in Premier League action against Burnley on Wednesday.
