Oyo State Goverment Seeks Information To Locate Nigerian Student Reported Missing In Turkey

  The Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters to Oyo State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu, has drawn attention to a Nigerian postgraduate student, Jamiu Adebayo Adekunle, who has been declared missing in Turkey since 2020.   The missing student from Iseyin, Oyo State, graduated from the University of Ilorin and then proceeded to Uskudar University, Istanbul, for his Master’s degree.   Popular Disc jockey, Babatunde Bello aka DJ Babus, has died of COVID19. He died on Friday morning January 29 after a protracted battle with the disease.   DJ Babus graduated from the University of Baltimore in the United States in 2010 where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and Technology Management. He worked as Resident DJ at Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos between 2014 and 2015 and later Resident DJ at RSVP Restaurant and Lounge. He founded his own company known as Crates and Vinyl Entertainment. The deceased was also the only son to Mrs Nadia Bello, the Proprietor, Belinna Schools, Akoka, Lagos.   The deceased was once Talent Manager at KnightHouse, The Creative Entertainment Company where popular acts like Mo Cheddah, Phenom rose to stardom.     Meanwhile, his friends and colleagues in the industry have taken to social media to express shock over his demise.

Man Arrested After Splurging $2 Million COVID-19 Relief On Luxury Cars And Houses

  A Las Vegas man has been arrested after fraudulently obtaining nearly $2 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds meant for small businesses – all so he could buy luxury cars and homes. Jorge Abramovs was arrested on January 15 and charged with one count of bank fraud, federal prosecutors from the US Attorney’s office in Nevada said in an unsealed criminal complaint. He allegedly applied for Paycheck Protection Program funds between April and June 2020 to at least seven banks but lied about the number of his employees and payroll, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Instead, he spent on a life of luxury including downtown condominiums, trips to lavish casinos, a $260,000 Bentley convertible and a Tesla. Abramovs completed the loan applications using several company names such as National Investment Group Corporation, National Legal Advisors in Care of and National Investment Group. Customs Seizes Lion Bones, Pangolin Scales Worth N952 Million

  The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, Lagos, has seized lion bones and pangolin scales worth N952 million. The Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Mohammed Abba-Kura, disclosed that the items were billed for export to Vietnam when they were intercepted. Speaking during a press briefing yesterday, Abba-Kura said the contrabands were in a 20-feet container with number CSLU 2362640, heading to Haiphong, Vietnam. He said the items, comprising 162 sacks of pangolin scales weighing 8,800kgs and 57 sacks of mixed endangered species of various sizes such as ivory/animal horns, lion bones and others were falsely declared as furniture components. High Court Discharges Atiku’s Lawyer, Brother Over $2 Million Fraud

  A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday dismissed a $2 million money laundering charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed against Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, a lawyer to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. The court also discharged his brother, Erhunse Giwa-Osagie, of the same charge. The siblings were re-arraigned on February 23, 2020, on a three-count charge of laundering $2 million in the build-up to the last general elections. The EFCC had alleged that sometime in February 2019, the duo conspired and committed the offence by making cash payment of $2 million without going through a financial institution, which sum exceeded the amount authorised by law. During trial, the EFCC testified that sometime in 2019, it received intelligence that some politicians were moving around with United States dollars to influence the results of the last general elections.   Four Palmas players and their club president have been killed after their plane crashed on take-off in Brazil on Sunday.   The small aircraft was taking the group to Goiania, around 500 miles away for their Brazilian cup game against Vila Nova on Monday in the Copa Verde.    The pilot of the small plane was also reported to have died as fourth-tier team Palmas said there were no survivors.   The club announced that president Lucas Meira, as well as players Lucas Praxedes, Guilherme Noe, Ranule, and Marcus Molinari, all died including the pilot, named as Wagner. A fugitive Nigerian drug dealer who skipped bail and fled South Africa more than three years ago after failing to appear in court has been rearrested while trying to re-enter the country on a flight from Nigeria.   Okonkwo Kingsley Nwabuike, 46, was rearrested at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International airport on Thursday, January 21, by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit.   “His arrest followed information received from Interpol about the suspect, who was circulated as wanted in August 2017 for dealing in drugs, said to be arriving at the airport in Johannesburg from Nigeria. The Hawks pounced on him shortly after his arrival,” the Hawks spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said on Friday.   Nwabuike was initially arrested along with Cypriah Joshua Emeka, 31, on August 31 2017 in Secunda during a search and seizure operation. A yet-to-be-identified man was found dead in his car along the CMD Magodo road in Lagos state on Friday, January 22.   A statement from the Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received an emergency call and when the staff arrived at the scene, they found a lone driver who had apparently "slumped at the wheel."   President Donald Trump has reportedly granted clemency to rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black in his final hours in the office. In an official White House statement released late Tuesday night, Trump issued 73 pardons and commuted the sentences of 70 additional individuals with Lil Wayne and Kodak Black on the list. Recall Lil Wayne, 38,  pleaded guilty last month to possessing a loaded, gold-plated handgun when his chartered jet landed in Miami in December 2019. Music Producer Phil Spector Dies Of Coronavirus 12 Years Into His 19-Year Jail Sentence For Shooting Hostess Dead

  Controversial music producer Phil Spector has died from COVID-19 related complications at the age of 81.   Spector, who is serving a 19-year jail sentence for shooting dead actress and hostess, Lana Clarkson at his LA mansion in 2003, was diagnosed with Covid-19 four weeks ago and was transferred from his prison cell at California Health Care Facility in Stockton to a hospital.   Lana Clarkson    He recovered enough to return to jail but he relapsed and struggled with breathing and returned to a hospital where he died on Saturday, Jan 16, according to TMZ.   The California Department of Corrections confirmed his passing after he was pronounced dead of natural causes at 6.35pm Saturday.     A medical examiner will determine his exact cause of death.    Phil's ex-wife Ronnie Spector took to Facebook to share a photo of them together while mourning him.     She wrote: "It’s a sad day for music and a sad day for me...
