Edo State Police Command has said it has arrested a 43-year-old man, Ovie Oktogbo, who specializes in raping male teenagers in Ugbowo, Benin. In a statement on Wednesday by the state Command Spokeman, SP Bello Kontongs, Oktogbo, an indigene of Delta was arrested after one of his victims, a 13-year-old fell ill. The statement stated, “On the 10/02/2022 at about 18:00hrs, the Edo State Police Command arrested one Ovie Oktogbo ‘M’ (43) of No. 15 Ugboguhi Street Off Uwasota, Ugbowo, Benin City, an indigene of Delta State but resident in Benin City. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided over by Justice Zainab Dimka Abubakar has granted the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's (NDLEA) request to detain Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and six others being investigated for their involvement in cocaine deal for 14 days. The court gave the order following NDLEA's application by its Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Sunday Joseph, yesterday, February 22, 2022. In suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/111/2022, the agency sought leave of the court to detain the suspects in NDLEA custody for two weeks pending the conclusion of investigation. The suspects are DCP Abba Kyari; ACP Sunday J. Ubia; ASP James Bawa; Inspector Simon Agirigba; Inspector John Nuhu; Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alfonsus Ezenwanne. Jose Mourinho was suspended for two matches on Tuesday after being sent off for an angry stoppage-time outburst at the referee in Roma’s Serie A draw with Verona.   Mourinho shouted at referee Luca Pairetto and mimed a phone call, an enigmatic gesture that earned him a red card.  Italian media reported that Mourinho was unhappy with how little time had been added Saturday, at the end of a game in which Roma fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2. Nigeria's Internet speed has been ranked 16th of the 46 countries examined on the continent, with Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia having the fastest mobile download speeds in Africa. Crowdsourcing firm, SpeedChecker, in its Africa's Mobile Network Champions report for 2021, released at the weekend, ranked countries and mobile operators in two categories: fastest mobile network champion and best mobile coverage champion. The firm explained that data used for the survey was collected between January 2021 and January 2022 from end user devices running Android and iOS systems. SpeedChecker took over 704 million coverage samples and over 3.4 million speed test samples across Africa. While Nigeria ranked 16th at 11.55Mbit/s, with Airtel emerging as the fastest network, Maroc Telecom in Morocco came out tops with an average country download speed of 23.57 Mbit/s. Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, has dragged the Federal Government to court to seek release from the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Kyari, in his suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22, is praying the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the NDLEA to grant him bail on health grounds, pending the hearing and determination of his fundamental right enforcement application. Kyari through his lawyer, Cynthia Ikena, claimed to be suffering from diabetes and hypertension and asked the court to order the NDLEA to release him. But Justice Inyang Ekwo noted that the suit contained some averments that would require the response of the Federal Government. “Upon studying the process of the Applicant and averments in support thereon, I am of the opinion that the respondent should be put on notice,” the judge held. The Operatives  of Ogun State Command of Nigeria Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Bola Agbedimu for spending fake one thousand naira notes at Kila market in Odeda local government area of the state. The suspect, according to a statement issued by the command image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was arrested following a report lodged at Odeda Divisional headquarters by the Chairperson of Egbalawa crops/fruits association, who said the suspect was caught spending fake one thousand naira currency notes in the market. The corpse  of a mother of three, Fatimo Olamide, is being held at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s morgue over N860,000 outstanding medical bill. It was learnt that Olamide was admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital for a terminal illness and underwent a surgery before she died on Monday, February 14. Her father, Shamusideen Shobowale, a 64-year-old retiree, said the family had spent about N1m – sourced from relations and friends – on Olamide’s treatment and were only able to raise N200,000 out of the N860,000 outstanding. Shobowale, who retired as a head watchman at Ikorodu Senior Grammar School, said Olamide was supposed to be buried in accordance with Islamic rites, lamenting that the family was sad the burial was being delayed. He urged the state government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to his aid so that his daughter’s would be released for burial soon. The mother of one added that she had already booked flight tickets for herself and her staff on a commercial airline but her husband asked her to use his private jet instead. She made this revelation on her Instagram page on Friday.   Zachary Horwitz has confirmed operating a multi-million dollar ponzi scheme. The actor was given a jail term sentence of 240 months (20 years) in the federal prison. Following the sentence, Horwitz is required to pay a compensation of more than $230 million. A  father, Mr Udo Ayanime, has been sentenced to death by a High Court sitting in Akamkpa, Cross River State, for killing his twin daughters, Mfoniso and Emediong. The convict was said to have accused the 11-year-old victims of witchcraft. Justice Agnes Onyebueke, who delivered judgement in the matter with suit number HK/6C/2018, said, “Udo’s action is satanic, demonic and beyond human comprehension.” The judge ruled that the convict “wilfully and gruesomely” murdered his daughters in 2017 after calling them witches. When cross-examined, the middle-aged man could not defend his action. He was said to have given the girls a malt drink mixed with acid. It was gathered that one of the twins died on the spot on January 10, 2017, while the second crawled to the road where a kind-hearted resident picked and took her to a hospital, where she died the following day. Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court Abuja, has fixed April 8 for ruling on a preliminary objection filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, challenging the validity of the 15 amended charges filed against him by the Federal Government. Justice Nyako fixed the date after counsel for Kanu, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) as well as prosecution counsel, Shuaibu Labaran, had adopted arguments for and against the defendant’s preliminary objection. In a short adumbration, Ozekhome pleaded with the court to acquit and dismiss all the charges filed against Kanu by the Federal Government. At a resumed trial on Wednesday, Ozekhome argued that the 15-count amended charge was “defective and baseless”. Specifically, he informed the court that his application seeks the “quashing, striking out and dismissing of the 15-count amended charge” against Kanu for being “incompetent and denying the court of jurisdiction” to entertain charge. The Department of State Services (DSS), on Wednesday, complied with the advice of a Federal High Court, Abuja, not to block the court premises and environs ahead of the trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. The trial judge, Binta Nyako, who fixed today’s sitting at 1p.m., had advised the officers of the DSS to inform their office about her recommendation. Although Nyako did not specifically make an order, directing the security outfit against such an act, she said this would allow the business of the court not to be grounded. A check at the court early in the morning showed that FHC staff, lawyers, litigants, journalists, among others, had free access into the high-rise building and its surroundings.
