ARTHRITIS: What You Need To Know About It

Image
A joint is an area of the body where two or more bones meet, to perform bodily functions connected by bones. Some joints, like the elbow joint and knee joint, are self-lubricating and are able to withstand compression as well as maintain heavy loads. Cartilage is a firm but connective tissue found in several areas of the body: joints, between the vertebrae in the spine, bronchial tubes, end of the ribs. It protects the joints by absorbing the pressure created during movement. A reduction in the normal amount of cartilage causes arthritis. Arthritis is the swelling of one or more joints, which causes pain and stiffness of the joint and this gets worse as one grows older. Although there is no cure, treatments have greatly improved over the years and there is a great benefit when treatment starts at an early stage. There are different types of arthritis but the three common ones are Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis and Psoriatic arthritis. Osteoarthritis: This is the most common form

RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: Russia Stripped Off Hosting World Junior Swimming Championships

Image
Swimming’s governing body, FINA, pulled the world junior championships from Russia Monday and said no other events will be held in the country “if this grave crisis continues”. Swimming powerhouse Australia welcomed the decision, which came after criticism that FINA had been slow to follow other sports in cancelling events following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “FINA remains extremely concerned with the continuing war in Ukraine and following ongoing consultation with athletes and stakeholders from the aquatics family, FINA can confirm that the eighth World Junior Swimming Championships is cancelled,” it said on Twitter. “FINA will not be holding any future events in Russia if this grave crisis continues,” it added. The World Junior Championships were due to be held in Kazan in August with the short course titles scheduled for December in the same city. Swimming Australia said it would be boycotting all competitions in Russia, including the World Short Course Championships, which are

RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR: Abramovich Hands Over Chelsea FC To The Club's Trustees

Image
Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich  has handed ‘stewardship and care” of Chelsea to the club's charitable foundation following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Abramovich will not be involved in the strategic running of the club any more, with that now falling to the Chelsea Foundation. The 55-year-old will not be asking the club to repay loans it owes to him – meaning the long-term future of the club remains secure. There have been calls from MPs this week that Russian-born Abramovich should not be allowed to own Chelsea due to his alleged links to Vladimir Putin's regime. In a rare statement from Abramovich, which was released on the club's website, the Chelsea owner said: “During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. “I have always taken decisions with the

NCC Alerts Nigerians Of Malware Stealing Banking App Details

Image
The Nigerian  Communications Commission’s Computer Security Incident Response Team has warned Nigerians about a newly discovered malicious software stealing users’ banking app login credentials on Android devices. According to the commission, the malicious software called ‘Xenomorph’, which has been found to target 56 financial institutions from Europe, has a high impact and high vulnerability rate. It added that the main intent of this malware was to steal credentials, combined with the use of SMS and notification interception to log-in and potential two-factor authentication tokens. In a statement, NCC said, “Xenomorph is propagated by an application that was slipped into Google Play store and masquerading as a legitimate application called ‘Fast Cleaner’ ostensibly meant to clear junk, increase device speed and optimize battery. “In reality, this app is only a means by which the Xenomorph Trojan could be propagated easily and efficiently. I have been very stubborn about it (marriage) and my mother has come to accept that marriage may not be for me. Perhaps, I will just have a child. She (mother) told me two days ago that I should just produce a child and I laughed. “Pressure for marriage isn’t for me because I am more concerned about connecting and living happily with the right person. Until I am able to build my life around that person, I don’t think I want to settle down. “If I feel pressured to get married, I could have done that since I used to be crazy about marriage; but not anymore.” Lucy, who has often been accused of reducing her age, said, “People should leave me alone because it is my age and my choice. I feel it is society that has caused that because many people reduce their ages just to get jobs or to be accepted in the society. But, th

Justice Hakeem Oshodi of a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, has convicted and sentenced kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (a.k.a Evans) to life for kidnapping of a businessman, Donatus Duru. The judge found him and two others, Uche Amadi and Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu, guilty of conspiracy and kidnapping, charges brought against them by the Lagos State Government. The defendants had earlier denied the two counts (kidnapping and conspiracy) preferred against them when they were re-arraigned on October 19, 2017. Evans, Amadi and Nwachukwu, alongside Ogechi Uchechukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba allegedly kidnapped Duru, the Managing Director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Limited, on February 14, 2017. While delivering judgment yesterday, Justice Oshodi discharged and acquitted two former military officers, Ifeanyi and Aduba, for lack of sufficient evidence linking them to the crime. The judge held that the prosecution had succeeded in proving the charge against the trio beyond reasonable doub
