Former Barcelona Defender, Dani Alves Makes Debut For Prison Football Team

  Former Barcelona defender, Dani Alves has made his prison football debut. According to La Vanguardia, Alves recently made his debut in prison football. The Brazilian right-back is in jail on suspicion of alleged sexual assault. The 39-year-old is understood to be alongside Ronaldinho’s bodyguard, Coutinho, in prison. The report added that Alves also signed shirts for inmates after making his debut in prison football. Alves was arrested earlier this month in Barcelona after it was alleged he assaulted a woman in a nightclub bathroom. The former Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain star denied committing the offence when he spoke to Spanish broadcaster Antena 3 earlier this January.

  An operative of Ebubeagu security outfit, whose name is yet to be identified, allegedly shot dead a colleague, one Ajasm Aja, N1000 from a campaign rally that took place at Isu community in Onicha LGA headquarters of Ebonyi State. It was gathered that Aja was shot dead by his colleague resulting from a controversy that trailed the sharing formula of money given to them during the All Progressives Congress (APC), campaign rally. It was gathered that the late Aja and his assailant were part of the Ebubeagu team drafted to Isu community to provide security at the APC governorship rally in the area. It was also gathered that the deceased had an altercation with his trigger-happy colleague over an amount of money, which each, was to get over N1000. Nigerian Court Orders Africa's Richest Man, Dangote's Companies To Pay N1.4Million To Employee Unlawfully Dismissed Within 30 Days

  The Lagos division of the National Industrial Court Of Nigeria (NICN) has awarded damages against two of Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s companies - Dangote Oil Refining Company Limited and Dangote Projects Limited - for the dismissal of one Peter Terngu Ahemen. Nigerian businessman, Dangote is Africa's richest man and the founder, chairman, and CEO of the Dangote Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa.  Consequently, Justice Justice (Dr.) Elizabeth A Oji, who presided over the court ordered Dangote Oil Refining Company Limited and Dangote Projects Limited, which are both defendants in the suit, to pay the sum of N1.4 million to the dismissed staff member, Ahemen, as damages and in lieu of notice. 2 Nigerians Arrested In Canada Over Alleged $500,000 Flight Tickets Fraud

  The Canadian police have arrested two Nigerians, Gbemisola Akinrinade and Adebowale Adiatu, for allegedly enriching themselves with the proceeds from the sales of valid flight tickets to unsuspecting customers. According to  Canada Today,  the suspects fraudulently sold more than 250 airline tickets at a value of more than $500,000 in the racket scheme. The majority of the customers who purchased the tickets were from the Calgary area and the flights were primarily to Africa, a press release by the Peel Regional Police on January 26, 2023, stated. The suspects are facing charges which include fraud, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime, obtaining by false pretences, and unlawful use of a computer. According to the police authorities, in many fraud-related cases, people in vulnerable situations are coerced, manipulated and taken advantage of for the profit of the fraudster. Court Set For Judgment In Suit Seeking Buhari’s Removal From Office On Monday

  All is now set for a Federal High Court in Abuja to deliver a landmark judgment on January 30 in a suit seeking the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari from office on account of alleged illegalities in the 2019 presidential election. The judgment billed to be delivered by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo will also resolve a request seeking to stop the conduct of the 2023 Presidential election.   Troops of the Nigerian Army have invaded Amamputu Uli community in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, forcing many residents to flee their homes. It was gathered that the invasion and burning of residential houses took place on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Several videos of the invasion on Thursday show soldiers pouring a liquid substance suspected to be petrol on houses after driving out occupants. Then they burnt the structures. In one of the videos, an armoured vehicle is seen pulling down an uncompleted building. It was also gathered that three elderly people in one of the buildings were dragged out before the soldiers set the house on fire with occupants’ belongings, including clothes burnt completely.   The Imo State government has declared Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27 public holidays to enable workers to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for the coming elections. Briefing newsmen after the first Executive Council meeting this year on Wednesday, presided over by Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Declan Emelumba said the public holiday affects mainly Imo workers in the Civil and Public Service. He said those involved in essential services like the banks, electricity workers and others so designated are not involved. The Commissioner also said that there will be free medical outreach for indigent Imo residents beginning from January 27, 2023, at some designated locations and hospitals in the state. “The outreach will take care of all forms of ailments/illnesses, including surgeries and it will be free of charge. 4 Nigerians Arrested In Cyprus For Running Prostitution Ring

  Some Nigerians have been arrested in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for allegedly running a prostitution ring. They are Sharon Blessing Chibuike, 38, Promise Ben David, 27, Chinedu Emmanuel Ibekweo, 19, and Esther Montse, 29. The quartet face crimes of Forced Detention with Intent Prostitution, Encouragement of Prostitution, Prostitution and Intentional Sexual Sex Detention. A Police officer, Vasvi Özbey reported the facts in a sworn testimony in court on Wednesday. The police acted on a complaint filed by “OA” at the Nicosia Judicial Branch on January 23. Blessing Chibuike lives in Nicosia, capital of Cyprus, with OA whom they had brought from Nigeria to enroll as a student in Turkey. The suspects withheld the passport of the 28-year-old, forcing her to have sex with men in exchange for money.   Some gunmen terrorizing Southeast Nigeria have released a video showing the kidnapped chairman of Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Chris Ohizu on his knees in a bushy area. Ohizu was last Friday abducted at his home in Imoko community in Arondizuogu town. The gunmen were said to have shot the chairman first in the leg and bundled him into a waiting car before setting his house ablaze. In the video clip, Ohizu was seen kneeling down in a bushy area. One of the unknown gunmen was heard in the clip threatening to kill the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma.
