Embattled R&B singer, R. Kelly, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday for recruiting and trapping teenagers and women for sex. Judge Ann Donnelly handed down the term in the Brooklyn federal court nearly a year after the 55-year-old Kelly was convicted by a New York jury. “The verdict is in: R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years,” the US attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York said in a tweet. The prosecutors had urged the court to put the “I Believe I Can Fly” artist behind bars for at least 25 years, saying he still “poses a serious danger to the public.” In September 2021, the fallen superstar was found guilty on all nine charges he faced, including the most serious of racketeering. “His actions were brazen, manipulative, controlling and coercive. He has shown no remorse or respect for the law,” prosecutors wrote in their sentencing memo. Kelly’s lawyers called for a lighter sentence with a maximum of approximately 17 years. 60-Year-Old Man Dies As Friend Steals ATM Card, Withdraws N700,000

The family of a 60-year-old man, Isak Wahab, has been thrown into mourning after he reportedly died from shock after an unauthorized withdrawal of N700,000 from his bank account. His wife, Monsurat, accused his friend, identified only as Ola, of making the withdrawal, which she said led to the death of the sexagenarian. Monsurat, while speaking to some reporters during a visit to their residence in the Ikotun area of Lagos State, said Ola stole her husband’s ATM card. She said, “Ola was a close friend to our family, particularly my husband. He had financial difficulties with his rent and he came to my husband to tell him that he wanted to sell his generator so that he could raise money to pay his rent. My husband told him not to do that and said he (Isak) was expecting payment from our tenants and he could help. Court Postpones Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Till November 14

  The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on terrorism charges has been shifted till November 14 by a Federal High Court in Abuja. Kanu is however to remain in the custody of the Department of State Service, DSS, till the date since the shift in trial was at his instance. The trial was put on hold by Justice Binta Nyako following the appeal instituted against the high court order upholding seven count charges against Kanu. Justice Nyako had dismissed 8 out of 15 count charges brought against Kanu by the Federal Government and ordered his trial in the remaining 7 counts. However at Tuesday (today’s) proceedings, Kanu’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome SAN, informed the court that his client has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja challenging the competence of the seven counts. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday (today), dismissed a fresh application the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, filed to be released on bail, pending the determination of the treasonable felony charge the Federal Government preferred against him. Kanu, who is currently facing a seven-count charge, had in the application he filed through his team of lawyers led by Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, equally challenge the revocation of the bail the court earlier granted to him. He specifically urged the court to set aside the order it made on March 28, 2019, which not only issued a bench warrant for his arrest, but also gave FG the nod to try him in absentia. The IPOB leader told the court that contrary to FG’s allegation that he jumped bail, he said that he fled for his life after his home town at Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, was invaded by soldiers, which he said led to the death of 28 persons. Justice Tijani Ringim of a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday refused to hear two cases of a human right lawyer, Malcolm Omihrhobo, who adorned himself in a lawyer’s gown with ‘native doctor’ attire to court. The lawyer also appeared bare footed with cowries tied on his two legs. His wig had two long feathers, with cowries in his two hands and tied a red wrapper, while he wore his lawyer’s gown on it. The human right lawyer, who appeared before Justice Ringim, was greeted with resistance by some lawyers who disagreed with his appearance before the court in such dressing; arguing that he could not be heard as he was not properly dressed as a lawyer before the court. Omihrhobo, who had on Thursday caused a stir at the Supreme Court in Abuja for appearing in court the same way, said it would be a violation of his right if he was not heard; noting that the rules could not be above the nation’s constitution. TRAGEDY! 3 Siblings Drown In Swimming Pool At Lagos Home

A yet-to-be-identified couple have been inconsolable after their three children drowned in a swimming pool on their estate in the Ajah area of Lagos State. It was gathered that both husband and wife had gone for an event when the three children left their house to swim in the pool. As of the time of filing this report, the circumstances surrounding the tragedy were still sketchy. It was, however, learnt that some residents, including security members on the estate, found the children lying motionless in the pool. A source said immediately the children were recovered from the pool, they were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were confirmed dead. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has granted a 10-day window to bandits operating and hibernating in the forests in Imo State to leave the place immediately and surrender themselves and their arms to their traditional rulers for unconditional pardon or face bombardment if they fail to do so. The 10-day amnesty grace by the Governor is with immediate effect and will be visited with severe consequences if not taken seriously by the bandits. Bandits Kill Catholic Priest, Fr. Vitus Borogo

  Armed men suspected to be bandits have murdered a Catholic priest, Rev Fr. Vitus Borogo, in Kaduna State. It was  gathered that the incident happened on Saturday at the Prison Farm, Kujama, along Kaduna-Kachia Road, after a raid on the farm. This was made known on Saturday night via a statement issued by Rev Fr Christian Emmanuel of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria. The statement reads: ”It is with a heavy heart, but with total submission to the will of God that we announce the death of Rev. Fr. Vitus Borogo, which sad event took place today, at Prison Farm, Kujama, along Kaduna-Kachia Road, after a raid on the farm by terrorists. "Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna condoles with the immediate family, the NFCS Family of Kaduna Polytechnic, and indeed the entire Kaduna Polytechnic Community; and assures them of his fraternal closeness and prayers”.   About two months after her demise, the burial of ‘Ekwueme’ singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu has been announced. According to her obituary poster, the late gospel singer, who died from complications arising from domestic abuse, will be laid to rest today, June 25, in Abia State.  Prior to her internment, a night of worship was held in Abuja on Thursday, June 23 while a Night of Prayer was also held in Isochi, Umunoci in Abia state yesterday, June 24. The ‘Ekwueme’ singer died on April 8, 2022, amid widespread allegations by her family, and colleagues that she was battered to death by her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, who is currently on trial. UK Court Denies Ike Ekweremadu And Wife Bail Over Child Trafficking, Organ Harvesting

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, alongside his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, were, yesterday, denied bail and remanded in custody by a United Kingdom court over allegation bordering on organ trafficking and harvesting. Organ harvesting involves removing parts of the body, often, for commercial gain and against the victim's will. The UK Metropolitan Police formally charged Ekweremadu and his wife with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting in the UK. The two were arrested and charged over their plan to bring a child into the UK to allegedly harvest the said child's organs. The charges involve arranging or facilitating travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting, according to a Met statement, yesterday. The victim, whose travel was facilitated to UK by the suspects, was said to be a homeless 15-year-old boy picked from the streets of Lagos under false pretense. The statement added that the
