Nollywood Actress, Chinedu Bernard Slumps And Dies While Cleaning A Church In Enugu

An upcoming Nollywood actress, Chinedu Bernard, was confirmed dead at the East Side Hospital in Enugu State after she slumped while cleaning the Chapel of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in the Federal Housing area of the state. According to reports, the priest, Reverend Father Uchendu Chukwuma, and some parishioners, rushed her to the hospital where she was declared dead. According to the post made by one of the parishioners, efforts were being made to contact her family members before depositing her body in the morgue. The actress popularly known as Choco featured in movies including ‘The Mad’, ‘Money Fever’, ‘The Big Mama’s Stick’, ‘The Last Manhood’ and ‘Mad Love’.

MTN Earns N421.49Billion From Calls, Data In 3 Months

MTN Nigeria Communications PLC made N421.49bn from calls and data in the first quarter of 2022. This is a 20.32 per cent increase from N350.31bn that the telecoms company made from voice and data in the corresponding period of 2021. In its Q1, 2021 announcement, MTN revealed that it made N470.98bn in total revenue in 2022. According to the firm, its subscribers declined by 1.3 million to 70.2 million year-on-year because of regulatory restrictions on new SIM sales and activations. It added that its active data users increased to 35.9 million y-o-y, while its fintech subscribers rose to 10.7 million. Fire Guts Parts Of Synagogue Church Of All Nations, Destroy Shelter Of Late TB Joshua’s Tomb

Fire has reportedly destroyed parts of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, (SCOAN) and the tomb shelter of the late founder of Prophet Temitope Joshua, in  Ikotun, Lagos State. Confirming the incident, The Head, of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, said the fire affected the shelter covering the late pastor's tomb. She said, “It is confirmed that a section around the tomb of the late pastor TB Joshua caught fire. A shelter was built to cover the tomb because it is an open place, so, it was the shelter that caught fire. But we were able to curtail it and it did not spread beyond where it started. Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has caused a stir on social media following the announcement of his second marriage to Nollywood actress, Judy Austin. Yul’s brother, Linc, who is also an actor, however, noted that he wasn’t there when his brother paid bride price for the second wife. NCC Puts Cybercrime Losses In Nigeria At $500Million, Sets To Implement DMS

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that cybercrime remains one of the dangers of digital transformation in Nigeria and across the globe.     NCC noted that while the opportunities a digitally literate population pose economically, socially, and developmentally are immeasurable, conversely, the risks posed, especially coupled with a youth unemployment rate estimated by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) at about 45 per cent, are severe. It noted: “We report that cybercrime alone, one of such risks, contributes to 0.08 per cent of the GDP loss, about $500 million. Tax evasion, terrorism, and health and safety violations are other risks associated with an increasingly digitally literate, mobile dependent economy. All these potential risks necessitate the need to have adequate tools and resources, backed by conscientious regulatory measures, to manage the growing mobile economy.”      The NCC disclosed this in its “Deployment of a Device Management System (DMS)

Nigerian Government Extradites Gbadegesin To US To Face $148,000 Fraud Charge

A wire fraud (locally known as Yahoo Yahoo) suspect, Adedunmola Gbadegesin, has been extradited by the Federal Government of Nigeria, to the United States where he is wanted in a case of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Gbadegesin, who was arrested in Nigeria on September 2, 2021, was accused of defrauding an American lady living in Kentucky, of over $148,000. The US intends to prosecute Gbadegesin for offences allegedly contravening Title 18, US Code, Section 1349 and 1956 (h). If convicted abroad, Gbadegesin could face a maximum jail term of 20 years. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) disclosed this in a statement by its spokesman Wilson Uwujaren. Uwujaren said Gbadegesin’s extradition was coordinated by the EFCC, following a request from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF). A Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, has dismissed Chidinma Ojukwu's counsel, Mr. Onwuka Egwu's objection to cross-examine the subpoenaed bank staff, who tendered the bank statements and account number of late Usifo Ataga, before the court. Justice Yetunde Adesanya, in a short ruling, said that Sections 218 and 219 of the Evidence Act 2011 (“the Evidence Act”) provides that, “A person, whether a party or not in a cause, may be summoned to produce a document without being summoned to give evidence, and if he causes such document to be produced in court the court may dispense with his personal attendance.” Section 219 of the Evidence Act also states that:  “A person summoned to produce a document does not become a witness by the mere fact that he produces it and cannot be cross-examined unless and until he is called a witness.” She said: “This bank officer that has not been sworn on oath cannot be cross-examined.” Justice Adesanya dismissed the application dur

Popular Nigerian comedian, Bovi Ugboma, on Tuesday revealed that he has been banned from entering the United States. The comic star revealed this while replying to questions from fans after he hosted a Question and Answer segment on his Instagram story. According to Bovi, he was banned from the country after he clashed with a visa-issuing officer and got labelled. He first spoke about the ban when a fan asked him to come to Massachusetts to perform. “I’m banned in the USA,” the father-of-three replied. There are indications that Twitter's agreement with the Nigerian government will be reviewed in the months as Elon Musk sealed a takeover deal with the firm yesterday at a transaction value of $44 billion. Musk had earlier proposed to buy Twitter for $43 billion in cash, which he called his “best and final” offer for the social media company. SYLVESTER OROMONI INQUEST: Dowen College Pupils Testify, Court Bars Journalists

A coroner, Mikhail Kadiri, presiding over the inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of a Dowen College pupil, Sylvester Oromoni (Junior), on Monday, barred journalists and other interested persons from the court sitting. The news of Sylvester’s death went viral following a social media post by his cousin, Perry Oromoni, who alleged that some senior pupils of the college beat him up in his hostel because he refused to join a cult. But the school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of leg pain following an injury he sustained while playing football. A coroner’s inquest was set up by the state government to look into the case. An early morning rainstorm in some parts  of  Lagos State on Sunday left many residents counting their losses, as they bemoaned the destruction that followed the downpour. The rain, which started around 8am, fell for over three hours. A resident on Muri Okunola Street, near Burger Chicken, Victoria Island, Stan Evans, said the rainstorm uprooted trees in the community, which fell on at least five cars and several buildings. It was gathered that power lines were not spared by the raging storm. Evans said, “I woke up this morning (Sunday) around 8.30am and saw the level of destruction the rainstorm caused. It uprooted trees on the street, which fell on some cars parked on the street; some buildings were also damaged. Over 100 People Killed, Vehicles Burnt As Illegal Refinery Explodes In Imo State

Over 100 people were killed on Friday night after an illegal refinery went up in flames at Abaezi community in the Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. Also, six vehicles were razed during the incident which threw the community into mourning. Hundreds of people, visited the scene of the incident on Saturday to have a glimpse of the unfortunate development. It was gathered that no fewer than 50 bodies burnt beyond recognition at the scene of the fire explosion, which was said to have happened at around 8pm.
